Locations

Here are a few common locations in and around the St. Margaret's Bay area that I often shoot at. Please note that you are NOT in any way restricted to these places, they are just ideas! If you have a favourite spot, beautiful backyard, or your aunt Ethel owns a hobby farm and you would like to do your session there please let me know! I am happy to oblige and am a good traveller:)

The Rails to Trails at Fox Hollow is one of my favourite locations! The lovely trail, the rushing river running alongside, the lake and rustic wooden bridge, and the amazing trees all make for wonderful images. It's a nice stroll with lovely light, perfect any time of year though particularily beautiful in the fall when the leaves are golden and so is the light.

Jerry Lawrence Park is located along the St. Margaret's Bay Road in Lewis Lake. It is a beautifully maintained Provincial Picnic Park with lovely lakes, wooded paths, open grassy areas, weathered wooden boardwalks and piers. The park has easy access, lots of parking, requires little walking, and is gorgeous throughout the summer and stunning in the fall when the colored leaves reflect on the water of the lake. Perfect for any session, it is excellent for families with small children and has lots of room for an extended family shoot as well. *Please Note* - Sadly the Park closes for the season around Thanksgiving, so please schedule your session with this in mind!

Polly's cove is just a few minutes from Peggy's cove, and offers stunning views of the rugged coastline, and a far-off Peggys Cove Lighthouse. The unique rocky landscape and walking trails make for great photos with a very 'Scotian' feel, and the sunsets can be breathtaking. The actual cove itself is just a short hike in from the road, though be warned that the rocky landscape can make for some trecherous footing for tiny toddler feet.

The Bluff Trail is just off the Rails to Trails in Timberlea, accessed via a parking lot just off the St. Margaret's Bay Road (Next to a self storage place). The Bluff Trail itself is a few minutes walk along the trail, but we can capture wonderful photos along the way as well! The Rails to Trails are beautiful, and this section passes through a tunnel (with some really neat graffiti) that works for some cool creative shots. The actual Bluff Trail meanders alongside a lake with lovely winding wooden boardwalks, and has the most fabulous color in the fall, even late into the season. It is immense, with four loops that traverse 30km! Awesome if you are into backcountry hiking after your session:)

Micou's Island is located in French Village, along the Peggy's Cove Road. The island is accessed by a sandbar that is only exposed within a few hours of low-tide, so planning is key when visiting. There are some beautiful beach grasses, a trail up in the woods leading to a pretty grassy field, of course the beach itself, and for the adventurous who would like to trek a few minutes through the woods to the western side of the island there are often the most beautiful sunsets over St. Margaret's Bay. Though a popular beach during the day, it is often quiet in the evenings and perfect for a photo shoot!

This is a new location for me, and one I am dying to get back to. High Head Trail is 4kms of spectacular coastal barrens along (and above) Prospect Bay. The views are amazing, the wooded trails are oh-so pretty, the rocks and the sea are perfection, and we can even capture a sunset over the water - I just love a westerly facing spot! This is such a gorgeous spot for an evening session!

The Look-off is definitely a hidden gem! Right above the government wharf in Boutlier's Point, it is a gorgeous little park with grassy areas, trails, tall grasses, lovely trees, and a sweet little beach area with a river flowing to the ocean. The light gets really pretty around here before sunset, and there is hardly anyone ever around! Such a great spot for littles to explore and adventure:)

This location is awesome for those seeking a classic seaside location. St. Margaret's Bay never disappoints, and it's such a pretty backdrop for any photo session. A quiet country road, Paddy's Head is right on the ocean, and has a great costal feel, with relatively easy to walk on rocks, a wooden bridge, and great sunsets over the Bay.

Cleveland Beach is one of my favourite beaches to photograph on! It is in Queensland on the eastern side of St. Margaret's Bay, approximately 15 minutes from Tantallon. Besides the beach itself, there is a pond and grassy picnic area that are both amazing for photographs, and the evening light here in the summer is to die for!
