 Family Session Information

Family sessions!! I love all types of photography, but family sessions are my JAM. I love families, I have a big one myself with a bunch of kids and grew up with an enormous extended family. Families are fun, families are special and they are my absolute favourite! We are nothing without our families, and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that my job gives people amazing memories. It's a many splendored thing indeed.

This here is a guide to help walk you through the process of a photography session with me, including some tips, tricks, ideas, and hopefully some helpful information! I would absolutely love to work with you and your family. If you have any questions along the way please just let me know, I am happy to help and always up for a chat!

Wardrobe: What will you wear?

This is the question to end all questions when it comes to planning your session, and one that can be a major point of stress! Having 4 kids and trying to co-ordinate them for our annual photo sessions, I so feel your pain! Try to start with one piece that you love, and build on from there. Often I find myself loving one of my little girls' dresses and then trying to find things for everyone else that will co-ordinate, mixing neutrals with a few pops of colour. Another great place to start is with mom, finding an item she loves and then adding colours and textures and build up from that starter piece. Another great place to start is to think of the colours in your home - these images will be up on your walls after all!

Things to keep in mind:

  • Comfort. This is so important! You want everyone to be comfortable and feel good. The whole look good feel good thing really rings true!

  • Accessorize! Hats, scarves, headbands, blankets, suspenders, jewelry etc. all are a great way to add in more of your style to the images

  • Colour. Co-ordination is key here, where everyone needs to compliment but not clash. Find a jumping off point and build on from there.

  • Textures and Layers: Denim, chunky knits, lace, cords etc. I love the way knits look in images, layer on the textures for so much interest!

  • Customize it! This is your session after all, and YOUR phots! Make it your own, rock it out like only you can, and own it.

Things to avoid:

  • Logos. Distract from your beautiful faces, and can really date a photo as well (Varnet anyone? lol)

  • Neon. Unless you want a hot pink face, I'd skip these.

  • Matchy- match outfits. Try to compliment each other instead!

After the session: "How long do we have to wait to see our photos?"

That is a great question! I take great care to go over all of your images and pick out the perfect moments. When I get home from our session, I immediately back up your images so they are safe. Also, I don't delete the images from my memory card until after I have edited your pictures. Once they are safely backed up, I pick my favorites. I am extremely proud of my work and love to share it! So I edit a few for  sneak peeks. These will be posted on my facebook page and / or instagram in the day or two following our session. I also enjoy putting together a blog post of your session as a bonus sneak peek! My turn around time for your full gallery is between 2-3 weeks. I don't limit the number of images I give out. Because my sessions are moment based, I just pick the best moments to edit and share with you. But I do guarantee at least 40 images, and include many black and white conversions as well as the colour files. Once I've finished editing your session, I will upload the your completed gallery to Pixieset. This is a photo gallery hosting website that is amazing for seeing (and sharing!) the collection as a whole and social media use. You are also able to download the full resolution files to print, and share your images however you please.

If at any time throughout the process you have questions, comments, thoughts, ideas or would just like to chat please don't hesitate to contact me, I am always happy to help:). I am looking forward to capturing some amazing memories with you!!
